“When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind” – African Proverb.
You don’t need huge numbers of people in your life – you don’t need 100 friends … you are not popular if you have 100 friends … you need a small number of good quality friends.
Suppose you have 100 friends, and you only have 24 hours in the day and 365 days in each year, how will you accommodate them all in your busy schedule? If you feel you need 100 friends, why is that? Answer 5 WHYs. Dig deep and find the answer.
The answer might be different for each of us because we are different, but the reason might be something that is not relevant to the ‘YOU’ of today.
I have highlighted this IN BOLD because I want to explain what I mean by it.

Suppose, when I was a child, I was criticised for having a bad singing voice. “Please don’t sing anymore – you’re hurting my ears,” they said.
I’ve carried this sentence and this criticism inside me until today and, until today, I’ve never sung in the shower or when others are around. Is this criticism relevant today? NO, it is not. It is inside me, but it is not relevant and it is not true. It was just someone’s opinion at some moment in the past – it has nothing to do with today.
IT IS NOT RELEVANT but I STILL CARRY IT. WHY?
Some of the things that shaped our beliefs, or planted the fear inside us, are not relevant today. We are no longer the child who was criticised – we are grown-ups now. That period of time is in the past so, how can that fear be relevant today? It does not exist … it is a myth that we carry inside us but it has nothing to do with our reality today …
Let’s get rid of it. Let’s find the strength to build a relevant belief – a belief that corresponds to our reality, to today. Let’s do this.
Suppose we are a laptop …
Step 1: Identify the virus that has spread through the laptop and that is slowing it down. There might be a lot of apps that have not been used but that occupy space. There might be lots of old documents from your degree 20 years ago. There might be pictures that have never been used or there might be a trojan horse virus that entered a while back, which you have not been able to get rid of because you did not know how!
Step 2: Let’s get some quotes from different software developers to get rid of the trojan horse virus that slows down our laptop. Let’s invest in professional services so that we can get our laptop back up to speed and running well again, and so that we can actually do some work.
Once you get rid of the virus, let’s take the 3rd step.
Step 3: Let’s reinstall some new, fast, clean software. That will make all the difference.
My advice: Start applying the laptop theory immediately to at least one aspect of your life and measure the results weekly over a period of 90 days. *Brill bit – We can apply the laptop theory to all aspects of our life:
- Health and Beauty
- Relationships and Family
- Career and Money
Always try to find the things that ground you, the things that help you develop those strong beliefs. So, no matter how strongly the wind of life blows at you, you will stand tall, firmly planted and not easily uprooted.
Take care out there, everyone.
Lots of love,
Electra-:)
